The title to one of my favorite Rush songs well I think it's the title anyways, fuzzy brain these days. I've been on a whirlwind last minute family trip. My grandma turned 90 today and my 4th nephew was born just 4 days ago. At the last minute the kids and I decided to pack up and fly to CA, we got into SFO at 8:30am on Saturday morning and drove up to Reno with my mom a few hours later. We went straight to Autnie Kimberly's house to see Matthew Chirstopher Dixon (MCD) great initials!!! He was just 3 days old and I feel fortunate that I have been able to be there or real close when each one of my four nephews were born. It's very much like submerging in the Ocean when you get to hold a baby just given to the world, refreshing, life affirming and like you are somewhere so close to the source.
We had a family slumber party at Tommy's two bedroom apartment last night. Mom, Ddad, Nanny Me, my three kids, My brother and sister and SIL Lauren. Today was also my grandmother's 90th birthday, so we were able to celebrate two lives in two days. Yes that's 10 of us sleeping in various places on the floor, very cool if you ask me. My sisters and I hotboxed my brothers laundry room, and fanned the living room to help Nanny with her glaucoma, Mom acted like she didn't think it was funny, but come on it just is! Chris, the good sister tried to go out and blame it all on me, like that's not how it always goes down anyways. I think Nanny could see much better today :)
My funny honest kids, Savannah to be exact. Asked Nanny straight up "so if your 90 now then are you going to die soon." Yep that's the kids I raised, When Nanny said she was having another birhtday party next year and Savannah would be expected to be there, she cheered out loud and siad she would be there and Nanny better be too. Pretty sure she just committed Nanny to another year here, like it or not!
I've always thought the very young and the very old, are such smart beings and really if you think about it they are both so very close to the source. That they are never confused about what's really important. Interesting the circle of life and the struggle that adults have to remember the most simple of things that kids and old people are never confused about. Also lovely to see the pure honesty not only of the two end of the spectrum but how they can communicate to one another without issues. While the adults tend to squirm around the issue. Baby, kids dogs and old people, life really is that simple if we let it be.
Will follow with pics when I get home, we are heading back to TX late tonight, so pics may take a few days, but they will be worth the wait.

ReplyDeleteJust saw this post for the very first time... OMG I never realized that you share Matthew's initials! How very, very cool. :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about the very young and the very old. (and dogs.) Nothing more pure. I have so much love for your awesome kids, and Nanny, and you, and everyone in between. Thanks so much for making that crazy journey to meet Matthew in his very early days. It meant a lot!
